About Gladiolus
Gladiolus bulbs are also known as ‘Sword Lilies’ and grow tall – up to 4 foot – flower spikes with mulitple flowers per stem. Gladioli are available in a wide range of colors, from white to almost black and from green to pink or multicolored flowers. The foliage is strong and straight, the trumpet shaped florets create a playful effect.
Planting Gladiolus bulbs
Gladiolus feature a staggering array of vivid colors on tall flower spikes. Choose from 11 different varieties and 3 popular Gladiolus mixtures. Gladiolus bulbs are ideally suited for cut flowers and also perfect for perennial gardens, borders and containers. Hardy is USDA zones 7-10.
Gladiolus bulbs are perennials and will keep producing new flowers for many years. They typically bloom at the end of summer and will stay in bloom for 2-3 weeks. Gladioli take 10-12 weeks from planting to boom. Gladiolus prefer full sun, plenty of water and like all bulbs, good drainage. Gladiolus bulbs are deer resistant; the flowers are attractive to butterflies.
